It is a 2-year course which provides candidates with a wide range of experiences that will equip them for the modern world. It has a strong tutorial and mentoring system at its heart that can both advise and support candidates in the planning, tracking and pursuit of their studies and also provides breadth and balance to the options.

Entry requirements

All potential candidates must be between the ages of 16 and 19. They will be invited to an interview, following which it will be necessary to submit a piece of written work. In addition, potential candidates should have passes in Mathematics and English, together with three or more other subjects, all of which must be at grade C or above.

What will I study?

A Selection of A Levels will be made from the A Level portfolio. The components of the Core are: · Wales, Europe and the World in which the focus is on political, economic, social and cultural issues in Wales, and sets them in the context of Europe and the wider world. This component includes a language module and it is hoped that students will be able to go on visits abroad as part of the programme. · Work-related Education, which enhances understanding of the world of work, the importance of enterprise and entrepreneurship and contributes to careers education and guidance. There is a requirement that all candidates will work with employers and contribute to a team enterprise activity. · Personal and Social Education which includes equal opportunities, social inclusion and sustainable development and will promote active citizenship and good health. There is a community participation element for all candidates. · Key Skills. The development of key skills will be embedded in each candidate?s programme, by design, in the Core components and within specific key skills programmes and through signposting in the Options, leading to assessment and certification.

How will I be assessed?

The Option part of the Diploma will be assessed in accordance with the external examining body requirements. For details see the School Brochure. The Core modules will be assessed by means of: portfolios; individual investigation; journal/diary; and witness statements.

Career Opportunities & Progression

After successfully completing this programme you will be able to progress to Higher Education or employment having acquired a full range of transferable skills which will enable you to be highly sought after by admissions tutors and employers.
