BTEC National Diploma in Business and Welsh Baccalaureate

This is a two-year course equivalent to three A-Levels. Alongside the National Diploma, you will also study the Welsh Baccalaureate, which is equivalent to one A-Level. During the course you will have the opportunity to visit a variety of businesses and meet and listen to guest speakers from commerce and industry, take part in a Community Programme initiative and develop a wide range of skills. Due to the structure of this course, on completion you will leave the college with two qualifications, greatly enhancing your future opportunities.

Entry requirements

Minimum requirements for this course will be either 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above, NVQ Level 2, BTEC First Diploma or an equivalent qualification. You will be invited to attend an interview.

What will I study?

The course includes a wide variety of subjects designed to improve your opportunities for securing a job in the public services. Some of the subjects are theoretical whereas others are very practical in their nature. Subject titles include Law & the Legal System; Health & Fitness; Leadership; Expedition Skills; Major Incidents; Uniformed Services and Citizenship. For the Welsh Baccalaureate, you will explore a wide range of areas including how Wales ?fits in? with Europe and the rest of the world, the health of the nation and how to be enterprising. You will also study 6 Key Skills, which are integrated into the course.

How will I be assessed?

Your work is continuously assessed through a series of projects. Grades of pass, merit and distinction are awarded depending upon the quality of your work.

Career Opportunities & Progression

Successful completion of this course will give you direct entry to University to study either an HND or an Honours Degree in Business or in Business-related subjects such as Accountancy, Marketing and Law. Alternatively, employment can be found in a wide range of occupations such as Administration, Accountancy, Sales, Retail and Trainee Management.
