CACHE Certificate in Childcare and Education (CCE)

Course Outline

The CCE is a 1-year part-time course, although there is a 3-year registration period to complete the award. The award provides you with the high standard of training you need to begin working with children. Time is spent in college and in a number of appropriate work placements in order to gain experience.

Entry requirements

To obtain a place on this course you will need to successfully complete an interview at the college, which will include a written test. All places offered are subject to two professional references and a satisfactory Police Check. You should possess a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D or above, a Foundation GNVQ in Health and Social Care or CACHE Caring for Young Children, with at least a Distinction grade overall. The college welcomes applications from mature students who do not necessarily meet our standard academic entry requirements.

What will I study?

You will study the following units: The Physical Care & Development of the Child; Working with Young Children; Emotional & Social Development; Preparing for Employment with Young Children and Parents & Carers. During the year you will have mandatory practical work placement training with children 1 to 3 years and 11 months and 4 to 7 years and 11 months. In addition to these modules you will study the Key Skills of Communication, Application of Number and ICT as well as the Wider Key Skills.

How will I be assessed?

You will be asked to complete assignments during the year and a multiple-choice examination paper at the end of the study year. Your practical skills in childcare will also be assessed in the workplace.

Career Opportunities & Progression

The Certificate programme trains and educates you to work in a supervised capacity in Childcare and Education, in a wide variety of settings for example Primary & Nursery Schools, Day Nurseries, Private Homes, Playgroups, Childminders, Family Centres & Crèches and Special Education. You can use the CCE as a qualification in its own right or as a route to other CACHE awards.
