BTEC Level 2/3 Diploma in Sport (Performance & Excellence) & Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate

Are you a sports star or looking for an exciting career in the sports industry? We welcome people from any sporting background and will work hard to help you combine your studies with your own training and competition schedule. Whatever your sport, this course will develop the skills relevant to you, allowing you to practically apply them, thus enhancing your sporting knowledge and experience. Alongside this course you will also study the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate qualification, which is worth 120 UCAS points (1 A-Level). You will study at both our Pontypridd and Nantgarw Campuses.

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above. Alternatively, a merit or distinction profile in the BTEC First Diploma in Sport or Sport and Exercise Sciences, combined with a recommendation from the course tutor. Qualifications of equivalent recognition, for example Intermediate GNVQ, or suitable experience will also be considered.

What will I study?

Over the two year programme you will study a range of topics, examples being Principles of Anatomy & Physiology, The Physiology of Fitness, Assessing the Risk of Sport, Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise, Sports Coaching, Sports & Exercise Massage, Work Experience in Sport Fitness Training and Programming, Sports Nutrition, Technical & Tactical Skills in Sport, Fitness Training and Programming, Sports Nutrition, Technical & Tactical Skills in Sport, Analysis of Sports Performance, Psychology for Sports Performance and the Athlete?s Lifestyle.

How will I be assessed?

This is a course that involves you in a variety of theory and practical based work. The assessment is in the form of assignments throughout. Your assignments involve realistic working situations, activities and demands. In addition to learning about sports performance and excellence, you will develop skills you need to continue study or pursue a career in sport.

Career Opportunities & Progression

This qualification is equivalent to two A-Levels and therefore serves as an entry qualification into Higher Education. Excellent opportunities also exist in the Leisure and Fitness professions; Sport & Fitness Consultant, Personal Trainer, Management and Teaching.
