Foundation Degree in Childhood Studies

This course provides the knowledge and skills necessary for those who wish to gain an understanding of activities relating to Childhood Studies. It is beneficial to those who intend to pursue a career in this field, or those who are already working in the childcare sector and wish to improve their employment prospects. *This course is offered by Universities Heads of the Valleys Institute (UHOVI), a strategic partnership between the University of Glamorgan and University of Wales, Newport. It is supported by the European Social Fund and is subject to validation.

Entry requirements

You should possess one of the following: A BTEC National Diploma, CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare & Education, an Access to Health or Humanities qualification or an equivalent qualification. In addition you will be invited to attend an interview.

What will I study?

The modules you will study include: Year 1 (Level 1 modules) Values & Diversity; IT & Research Methods; Communication & Partnership; Practice Credits and Play (Level 2). Year 2 (Level 2 modules) Trends in Infant Health; Curriculum Matters; Legislation; Child Development; Developing Professional Practice and Practice Credits.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed mainly through written assignments, reports and portfolios.

Career Opportunities & Progression

After Successful completion of the Foundation Degree in Childhood Studies you can undertake further qualifications such as the ?top-up? to the BSc Degree in Childhood Studies offered by the University of Glamorgan. It will also help your career prospects. This course is offered in partnership with the University of Glamorgan.
