First Certificate in Music

Course Outline

This 1-year course consists of three units, the qualification is the equivalent of two GCSEs grades A*- C .It is a practical course supported by a study of the music industry.

Entry requirements

Although no formal qualifications are required to be successful on the course you need an enthusiasm for music and a standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grades D-E; related work experience or other related level 1 or 2 qualifications.

What will I study?

The course covers rehearsing, planning and performing as part of a band. You will have the opportunity to work in a state of the art recording studio, using industry standard equipment. You will also develop your understanding of the theory of music and explore different styles of music. You will work with computer systems such as Reason, WAVE Lab and Pro tools.

How will I be assessed?

All units are internally assessed and externally moderated. On successful completion of the qualification an overall grade of pass, merit, or distinction is awarded.

It provides a good basis to progress to more advanced work-related qualifications.
