BEAUTY THERAPY STUDENTS @ THE ACADEMY RAISE FUNDS FOR VELINDRE NHS TRUST

The HND Beauty Therapy and Foundation Degree Complementary Therapy students of The Academy at Nantgarw Campus, Coleg Morgannwg raised a fantastic £624 for the Velindre Cancer Centre Appeal.

international womens day

The event took place at the Academy, Nantgarw Campus - the college’s signature centre of excellence in Spa, Beauty Therapy and Complementary Therapies, Velindre Hospital and the Students Union at the University of Glamorgan. The students spent the day providing introductory taster treatments, for their fellow students, staff, patients and members of the general public; including Dry Floatation Therapy, Reflexology, Aromatherapy Massages, Dermalogica facials and much more at all locations.  This initiative took place to promote Health and Well-being for donations to the Velindre Cancer Centre Appeal.

Elaine Rees, one of the organisers, said: “The students were eager to get involved with this fundraising event as I am sure each one of us is aware of a family member who has been affected by cancer.

Staff and students have been extremely busy advertising the event; we are fortunate to have first class facilities here at The Academy and this has given us the opportunity to promote our fantastic new Spa, whilst raising funds for such a good cause.

The experience gained by the students whilst delivering the treatments at Velindre has been of great value. On completion of their course many of the students may choose a career in this environment.

Quote from client at The Academy “having received fantastic support and treatment at Velindre, I felt it was important to be part of this wonderful day of total relaxation and give a little back….”

Jayne Manley, Student said “Everyone has enjoyed the event, we’ve had a brilliant response from the public and their comments reflect the eagerness to be associated with the fundraising for Velindre Cancer Centre Appeal “

Quote from client at Velindre “ it has been a fantastic opportunity to sample these treatments… I’ll definitely be booking at The Academy for more please “

Mrs Ceri Harris, Diversity and Equality Manager, Velindre NHS Trust expressed her thanks to the college for its involvement with this venture – “ I am very pleased with the successful outcome of the day, and hope to work in partnership with The Academy for future events “

The cheque for £624 was presented to Velindre Cancer Care Appeal
